Should My Lawn Care Service Edge All My Flower Beds?

Asked By GreenThumb77 On

I recently hired a local lawn care person to mow my yard bi-weekly, covering about 1 to 1.2 acres. However, I've noticed that they only edge around the concrete, not around my flower beds or where the grass meets non-concrete areas. They're charging me $150 per visit, and since this is my first experience with a lawn care service, I'm curious if edging flower beds is typically included in the package. What should I be expecting?

It really comes down to what you’ve discussed or contracted for. If there's no written agreement, then just bring it up in a straightforward conversation. Generally, for lawn services, mowing often doesn’t include that level of edging, but clear communication about what you want is key to avoid any confusion.

Honestly, for the price you’re paying, edging should be included. If you're in an area where costs are higher, $150 might be normal for mowing, but edging isn’t typically an add-on—it should be part of the overall service. Double-check what you’ve agreed upon, and if there's no written contract, chatting with him about it should be easy.

Totally agree, a little conversation goes a long way!

Exactly! Just approach him and ask directly, it’s the easiest way.

It sounds like your lawn care service should ideally include edging around flower beds, especially if it's your first service and you're paying a decent amount. At my company, we provide a clear list of services in our agreements, including edging, so clients know what to expect. You might want to clarify directly with your landscaper if the edging isn't included—it's always good to have open communication. If they don't offer it automatically, asking for it might come at an extra cost, so definitely check!

Right? It's better to clarify directly instead of assuming.

For sure! Just send him a quick message asking how much extra it would be for edging around the beds.
