I recently hired a tiler for my kitchen backsplash, but I'm a bit concerned about how he centered the subway tiles, or rather, didn't. He began with a full tile under the rightmost upper cabinet instead of centering it over the range and vent hood area. This has resulted in thin slivers of tile on the left side. Is this a common practice? He mentioned that full tiles should be placed in the most visible spots, but it feels off to me. What do you all think?

It’s generally recommended to start centering tiles where the eye is most drawn, which in this case would be over the range. Starting from a full tile there gives a more balanced look. If you have a picture, it might help others give better advice!
