Should We Bring Gas Into Our New Home?

My partner and I are excited about buying our first home! We found a bungalow from the 70s, but it doesn't have gas lines installed. We're debating whether it's worth the cost to bring gas into the house. We got a quote starting at $7,000 due to the distance from the existing gas lines on the street. What are your thoughts on the pros and cons of making this investment?

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with gas. Electric cooking and heating with modern heat pumps is efficient and easy. Plus, you’ll need to replace appliances to use gas anyway, which adds to the cost.

Right? Induction cooktops are so advanced now, and they can outperform gas stoves in many ways.

Yeah, and don’t forget about the health risks that come with gas. Even if you don’t have kids, it’s something to consider.

It really boils down to where you live. If you experience harsh winters, gas might be more economical for heating. On the other hand, if you stay in a milder climate, stick with electric heating. It's also important to think about replacing appliances if you switch to gas.

Exactly! If you keep your electric appliances, then sticking to electric seems smarter, especially for heat.

Totally! Make sure to compare both heating options and their costs in your area before deciding.

I think you should really weigh the cost of gas against your current electric rates. If you're paying a lot for electricity, then switching to gas could save you money in the long run, especially for heating.

That makes total sense! I've heard some people in colder areas pay way less for gas compared to electric heating.

Exactly! Where I live, our winters can be brutal, and gas is much cheaper than electric heating.
