My wife and I own a 50s ranch-style house with small bedrooms and some awkward layouts. We have a master bedroom with a bathroom that we don't really use because it's too cramped—just barely fits a bed! We're thinking about combining our two bedrooms to create one larger space, which would include a small office for me since I work from home full-time, as well as a bigger closet. We also have a third bedroom that's my current office and a fourth bedroom in the basement we plan to update later. Given that we intend to stay here long-term and are only considering one kid (if any), I'd love to hear from anyone who's done similar renovations or any considerations we should keep in mind. I'm not too worried about the resale value since we'll be living here for a while. Thanks for any insights!

So, you’re changing from a 3-bedroom to a 2-bedroom? I'm curious about the future layout; if you plan to have a kid, where are they going to sleep? Just checking!
Absolutely, go for it! If combining the rooms will enhance your living experience and it doesn’t risk any structural issues, then it's definitely worth it. Life is too short to live in spaces that don't work for you, especially with your long-term plans in mind!
