Should We Hire Separate Contractors or Rely on One Big Company for Home Projects?

My wife and I are moving into a new home and need to tackle several projects, including re-lining the pool, installing perimeter and pool fencing, landscaping with decomposed granite and turf, and possibly building a retaining wall and decking. We've noticed a lot of companies claim to "do it all," but I'm worried that using one company might inflate costs and result in lower quality work since they may not specialize in each area. Has anyone had experiences with these all-in-one companies?

Honestly, the saying "Jack of all trades, master of none" rings true. Companies claiming to handle everything often just subcontract their work out, so you're better off going with specialized contractors. It might be a little extra work on your end, but you’ll probably get better results and avoid paying inflated prices.

For the pool re-lining, it's smart to get a specialist, and then consider hiring separate contractors for the fencing, landscaping, and any additional features. A general contractor could oversee everything to ensure tasks are scheduled properly and to prevent any conflicts between the different jobs. It will likely save you money in the end.
