Should You Caulk the Seams on Hardie Board?

I'm currently having Hardie Board installed on my house, and the crew has done a good job caulking around the trim. However, I noticed they didn't caulk the seams where two boards meet. These seams really stand out, and I'm wondering if it's a regular practice to caulk these areas. Not only would it make them less noticeable, but I feel like it could also help prevent water from getting in. What do you all think?

According to the installation guidelines, it's typically recommended not to caulk those seams. There's a specific flashing designed for those butt joints that does the job better. Caulking might actually void the warranty, so it's worth considering that before making any changes.

Thanks for the info! I'll look into that flashing.

I did a bit of research when I faced this same issue a while back, and a lot of folks suggested that caulking those seams isn’t a great idea. That said, I went ahead and caulked mine since I thought it looked better. So far, I’ve had no problems, but I do have house wrap underneath which probably helps prevent any moisture issues.
