Soil Blocking, Rock Wool, and Pellets: Which is Best for Starting Plants?

I'm curious about the main differences between soil blocking, rock wool, and seed pellets when it comes to starting plants. I've recently tried soil blocking for the first time and while it works well overall, I noticed that the blocks can fall apart if handled too much or watered roughly. I'm still figuring out the best packing technique. On the other hand, I've also started using rock wool in my new hydroponic system, and I like that it allows roots to grow out easily. However, I find that it doesn't decompose like the other options. I recently tried seed pellets as well, but I had poor germination rates when planting seeds directly; sprouting them first seems to work better. I also found the wrappers a bit annoying since they need to be removed to prevent root issues, but they hold up nicely until you're ready to plant. Overall, I'd love to hear when each of these methods is considered the best option!

I really like using rock wool combined with perlite. It’s great because it's sterile and gives you good control over moisture; plus, it’s super easy to manage! I've had good growth using this combo.

So do you just grow directly in perlite, or do you mix it with rock wool? I’m curious how you set that up!
