Spill Your Landscaping Hot Takes!

Today, I'm feeling bold and want to stir up some heated debates! What are your most controversial opinions or hot takes when it comes to landscaping? I'm looking for the nitty-gritty stuff that makes your blood boil and the decisions made that you think are downright foolish, whether it's about aesthetics or practical applications. Skip the standard responses like 'People need to use more levels in their garden beds' or 'I just don't like red mulch.' I want the real spicy stuff! And for anyone who's going to say something like 'People should be free to landscape without judgment,' take that sentiment elsewhere – we're here for the drama! Pro tip: check the most controversial comments for the best responses. Let's go all out!

I am so over the common tropes in landscaping like too much liriope and pachysandra. It’s lazy design, and doesn’t look good at all!

I had to look those up, but I agree! They are really overused and downright boring.

Let’s face it: landscapers aren't arborists or horticulturists! They often know just enough to get by, but when they step into tree care, that’s when the real costly mistakes happen.

Totally, most are just lawn maintenance folks with minimal training. It can be a disaster!.

I used to work for a landscaping company and always thought, 'Please stop asking him gardening questions, it’s not like he knows what he's talking about!'

Don’t sleep on xeriscaping! I really wish more folks in my area would ditch thirsty grass lawns for more sustainable options. Grass is such a waste of water!

NativePlantNerd -

Agreed! But maybe we can encourage people to try native plants little by little, rather than going all in on xeriscaping?

I see where you’re coming from, but there’s something to be said for a lush lawn, especially if you have kids who want to play!

I think about 5% of landscape lighting is actually good – the rest looks cheap or just plain awful. It's like people don’t realize how tacky it can be!

BrightIdeas92 -

Super curious, what would you consider part of that 5%?

NightOwl92 -

I'm with you! Most landscape lighting is just too bright and distracting. It’s like they’re trying to turn their front yard into an airport and it looks tacky.
