I've just jumped into woodworking and I'm really excited about it! I've done a bit of tinkering with it before, but now I want to dive in and make this a serious hobby. The only hitch is my workspace is pretty cramped, which is a common struggle, right? I'm torn on what tools to invest in first. I want to get a table saw, jointer, planer, and a tracksaw, but I simply don't have room for all of them. I've seen some cool compact setups that combine a planer and a jointer, and those look great. Right now, I'm leaning towards getting either a Dewalt or an Oliver planer. I'm also debating whether I really need a jointer since I can face joint with a planer and edge joint with other tools. A full-size table saw isn't an option for me right now, so I'd love any advice on which tools are essential to start with in my limited space. If you've got specific brand and model recommendations, I'm all ears!

Since you're looking to do a lot of long cuts, I’d recommend considering a track saw or a compact table saw. While the track saw is easier to store, it may take a bit more prep time for cuts. I keep my table saw under a workbench and set it up outside as needed. Look into folding table saws; they could be a great compromise for your space limitations!
Starting out, it’s key to only buy tools that fit the specific project you’re working on. If you’re set on making tables and desks, a good block plane is vital. I’ve done most of my work with hand tools, and while it may seem daunting, you can build up your collection as you go along.
You should definitely think about one project at a time. This helps you determine what tools you truly need. It might be a good idea to map out what you want to build first and then buy accordingly. Planning is crucial in woodworking!
