Hey everyone! I've been dealing with a weird problem lately. At night, there's this bad smell that I can't quite pinpoint. A few years back, I had a rat that got trapped in my walls, and this smell is reminiscent of that, though it's not as intense. I called an exterminator, and he checked the crawl space but found nothing. He noted that if it was a dead animal, I would smell it all the time, not just at night. So, I'm wondering if anyone has ideas about what else could be causing this smell or what service I should reach out to since it seems like an exterminator isn't the right choice this time.

Could it be humidity affecting the smell? I noticed that my neighborhood has a different odor at night, likely due to the moisture in the air. It's worth checking if the humidity level in your area could be causing something similar.
Another possibility is skunks. They tend to be more active at night, and their smell can really be overpowering. If you have skunks in the area, that might explain the timing of the odor.
It might actually be temperature-related mold. Sometimes when it cools down at night, mold can kick up its smell, especially if there’s some dampness around.

That makes sense! I live near some wooded areas, so it could be that.
