Strange Smell in One Corner of My New House – Need Help!

Hey everyone! I previously posted about a strange smell in one specific corner of my brand new house, and I really appreciated all the suggestions I received. As an update, I managed to cut into the wall as recommended, and I primarily detected the smell in one of the openings. Interestingly, there weren't any signs of moisture, no dead animals, or anything like that. So, I'm back to ask: what should I do next? The odor seems to be isolated to this one patch of drywall. Any thoughts?

Have you checked up in the ceiling or beneath the floors? Sometimes smells can hide in those areas and take some time to show up in corners.

That's a good point! I’ll make sure to check those areas as well.

What exactly does the smell remind you of? Knowing the scent can help narrow down the source of the problem.

Since you mentioned having an air quality test, gas leaks can sometimes be tricky. I had a similar issue where it smelled like something had died, but it turned out to be gas. It’s worth checking if you suspect that at all! Good luck with finding the source!

Sounds like you're making progress! You might want to open up more drywall if you can't see to the back of that stud bay. An endoscope could help, but since you're already in there, just cut a little more. I'm betting it could be a drywall screw accidentally piercing a sewer pipe. It's usually a simple fix once you track it down.
