I'm having some trouble securing a square wooden dowel to a metal stud using wood-to-metal screws, and I need some advice. I'm currently using Teks #12 x 2-3/4 inch wood-to-metal screws, but it seems like the screw is just spinning in the hole without gripping the metal stud at all. I've even ended up with a hole like this: [link]. I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong screw type or size. What should I do? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

One thing you should check is the thickness of the wooden dowel you're dealing with. Self-tapping screws need to stick out through the metal so they can really grip it. If your dowel is thicker than about 2-1/4 inches, that could be part of the issue. Also, make sure to use impact mode when driving the screws, as that can help a lot!
