Struggling with My Drought-Stricken Garden—Need Advice and Encouragement

I've been putting so much effort into my garden this year, and it was thriving until July hit. With temperatures soaring over 90°F and barely any rain—less than a tenth of an inch all month—it's been a rough time for my plants. After countless hours watering from my well, I realized my efforts were in vain. I've had to throw away almost all of my tomatoes due to blossom end rot, and now I'm facing two more hot days with little hope for rain.

This garden isn't just a passion; it's crucial for feeding my family throughout the year. I'm feeling completely defeated and was hoping for some advice or at least some encouragement. I've never felt this down about my gardening before, and I can't even bear to look at my plants anymore. What can I do to salvage this situation or prepare better for next time?

I feel your pain, OP. I’ve also been battling with dryness and it’s frustrating when the weather is unpredictable. It sounds like you’re aware, but remember to keep watering consistently, and consider mulching deeply to help retain the moisture you do provide. Maybe a shade cloth might help as well to protect against the harsh sun. Sending good vibes your way—may August bring you better luck!

I’m with you! Hydrophobic soil can be a nightmare. I've seen benefits from using mulch to retain moisture, so it might help ease the situation. Let's keep the faith!

Sounds incredibly tough! I can relate—it's been a rollercoaster weather year. You might want to explore some irrigation options for next year. Drip irrigation systems are great for conservation and ensuring your plants get adequate water without wasting any. Best of luck, and remember to take it one day at a time!

I love the idea of drip irrigation; definitely something to consider for next year. Thank you for the tip!

I’m really sorry to hear about your garden struggles! It seems you're doing all the right things, but sometimes nature just doesn't cooperate. Remember, you can also rely on local farmers' markets for fresh produce. It can help lighten the load during these tough times. Don't lose heart—you still have options. Hang in there!

Thanks for your encouragement! I definitely plan to hit up the farmers' market. We try to be self-sufficient, so it's tough to see things fall through this year.
