Struggling with No-Dig Gardening? Let’s Talk Solutions!

I've been trying to get into no-dig gardening after hearing all the rave reviews, but I'm really struggling to see its benefits. Using so much compost seems overwhelming, and I have persistent bindweed and couch grass problems that just won't go away, even with cardboard at hand. Am I missing something here? Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

I think the key with no-dig is to view it more as a philosophy than a strict rule. Sure, you’ll dig a hole when planting, but it's about minimizing disturbance to the soil. If weeds are your issue, just get those pesky roots out and then cover the area well with mulch. Grass clippings or homemade compost can work wonders! It's all about setting up the right environment first, then embracing no-dig principles.

Absolutely! It's about finding that balance. Once you've done the foundational work, no-dig can be easier! Stick with it!

I totally get the struggle. Personally, I dig like it's my cardio! There’s something satisfying about flipping the soil. I haven’t gone the no-dig route, mainly because I enjoy the digging part. But I do know that if your soil is full of stones, like mine was, just laying down cardboard isn't going to cut it. You might still need to dig to get the compost and soil quality you want, before managing the surface with mulch.
