I've got a DCST922 string trimmer and I've read that I should be able to respool the line without taking anything apart. But I'm having some trouble making it work. Does anyone have tips or advice on how to do this properly?

If you're really fed up with the respooling hassle, consider upgrading to a Husqvarna T25 head. It's a game-changer! You'll never have to deal with the old-style spool again, trust me!
