Struggling with RHS Level 2 Unit 1 – Need Advice After Failing

Hey folks! I wanted to reach out to see if anyone here has taken the level 2 - Unit 1 exam on Principles of Plant Growth & Development in June 2025. I felt pretty confident on the exam day, but I ended up failing with just 33%, which has me really down. I had prepared a lot for this exam, and it was crucial for me to pass since now I can't move on to Unit 2 as planned for February 2026.

I'm currently working full-time (not in horticulture), and because I can't attend classes in person at all, I'm doing this course by correspondence. Unfortunately, the support is limited since it's all self-study and the tutor is only part-time. I know I'm starting from scratch in horticulture, and at nearly 55, I'm eager for a career change since my job in an office doesn't fulfill me anymore. With my boss nearing retirement, I want to ensure I have a foothold in something I'm passionate about. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Karine

I totally get where you're coming from! These RHS qualifications can be incredibly tough, especially without classroom support. Studying remotely is definitely a challenge, and I think you’ll find that many struggle with this format. Just remember to stay focused on your goal. You're not alone in this!

Good luck, Karine! I was shocked at the course fees too when I first looked into it. The flexibility of remote learning is great, but I can imagine how tough it can be without regular guidance.

Hey Karine, don't be too hard on yourself! A lot of people struggle with Unit 1 since it’s got a heavy theory load compared to Unit 2. Retaking it could actually give you a better foundation for the future units. Just keep pushing forward; you’ve got this!
