Stuck Faucet Aerator: How Do I Remove the Broken Housing?

Asked By CraftyGizmo42 On

I got a cheap aerator for my faucet, and unfortunately, the aerator body broke when I tried to unscrew it with a wrench. Now I've got the outer housing stuck in the faucet, and I'm worried about using too much force because the faucet is quite pricey. What are some effective methods to get it out without damaging anything?

You might want to try using an internal pipe wrench to grip and twist the outer housing out. If that doesn’t work, a shortened hacksaw blade can help. Just cut from the center out radially and then use a flat head screwdriver to collapse it inward and remove the remnants.

This is definitely the way to go! Just be careful with the hacksaw.

I can get a hacksaw, but I'm not sure about cutting radially. Should I be cutting at an angle or straight?

You might want to post some pictures of the situation so folks can give better advice. It’s tough to visualize without seeing it!

Yeah, I’ll make a separate post if I need more help after this.

Like mentioned before, your choices are either to grab the outer housing and pull it out or cut it without damaging the faucet. It’s a tricky situation!

I don't have a tool to grab it, so I'll have to go with the hacksaw.
