Stuck on Setting Up My Jorgensen Smoothing Plane – Need Tips!

I'm having trouble getting the iron of my Jorgensen smoothing plane to extend past the mouth. If I push the chipbreaker back a lot, the iron sticks out, but that can't be right, can it? I've already flattened the backs of both the iron and chipbreaker. I set the bevel at 30 degrees with a 25-degree micro bevel using a honing guide, and the blade can shave hair, so I think that part's okay. I'm just not sure if I'm missing something fundamental since this is my first bevel-down plane. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you considered moving the frog back a tiny bit from the mouth? It could give you enough clearance for the chipbreaker and iron combination. Just make sure it's still set properly!
