Suggestions for a Whole House Water Filtration System?

I'm having some trouble with our city water supply. Although it's safe to drink, it doesn't taste great and has an unpleasant smell. I even had a water test done, and the city adjusted the chlorine levels, which did help a bit. However, the smell remains and I've noticed that our freshly washed clothes aren't smelling fresh either. I've already cleaned the washing machine with bleach and other cleaners to rule that out. I'm curious if I can install a water filtration system for the whole house and how expensive that might be.

Installing a whole house water filter system can typically cost around $1500, but the price might vary based on the size of the unit you need and local labor rates for installation. It's good to check with local professionals for specific estimates!

While a whole house filter can help with water quality, it might not be the root cause of your clothes smelling. Have you noticed the same smell in your toilet tank? Also, how do you usually keep your washing machine? Front loaders can be prone to mold if you keep the door closed too much in humid conditions. If it’s a top loader like you mentioned, maybe there’s some cleanup needed there?

The water definitely has an odd smell, and it was quite bad when we moved in. I have a top loader and keep the lid closed because of my cat. I’ll check if there’s any mold or buildup. Thanks for the tips!
