Hey folks! I'm looking for some recommendations on trees or shrubs that can reach around 3 meters in height and could thrive in a container for the long haul. My back wall isn't looking too great, especially with that new floor added to the block of flats next door. I'm hoping to add a tree at the back of my paved area, but I'd prefer not to remove the bricks. I've thought about a Cornus—any thoughts on that? I'm located in London, and my back wall faces west, so it gets plenty of afternoon sun.

How about considering options like an Olive, Cornus kousa, or Amelanchier? These will do well in a pot and look fantastic! Also, dwarf fruit trees might be perfect, especially on a dwarf rootstock. They'll fit nicely and still give you some fruit!
Don’t forget about the strawberry tree! It's pretty unique and can definitely add some character to your patio.
You can't go wrong with an Acer! They're great for pots and really add color to any space. Plus, they thrive in sunny spots!
Acer is a good call, but have you considered bamboo? I’ve got mine in a metal trough and it’s thriving—almost 6 feet tall now! Just remember to keep it well-watered. Other solid options are ornamental quinces or even Kousa Dogwood for some nice blooms. They can really brighten up that wall!
The pot size matters a lot! If you can get at least a 50 cm wide pot, dwarf fruit trees will do fine if you keep them watered in the summer. Also, ornamental quinces and most bamboos are quite resilient and will do well in pots!
Totally agree on the bamboo! It can create a great privacy screen and looks beautiful too.
