Thinking About a Black Kitchen Renovation – What Are Your Experiences?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to renovate my builder-grade kitchen and I'm really leaning toward a stylish black kitchen. I'd love to get some real insights from anyone who has black cupboards. How do they hold up in terms of showing dirt and how easy are they to keep clean? Should I go for it or is it a bad idea? Thanks in advance!

I just installed a black kitchen with butcher block counters, and honestly, it’s been great! They don’t really show dirt like my old white cabinets did. Just a little water occasionally leaves marks, especially under the sink, but they're easy to wipe off. The only challenge is spotting any marks from certain angles, so I just give the doors a good cleaning in overlapping strokes. I chose black handles too, but sometimes I think a bit of contrast, like copper, could look cool! Also, be careful with your appliances – some lighter colors can clash with the overall aesthetic.

Do you have any pictures? I’m thinking of getting a similar setup with black appliances and a white marble island. Finding it hard to decide on floor and backsplash designs. By the way, do those water marks wipe away without streaking? Are your cabinets glossy or more matte?

To make a black kitchen really pop, consider choosing a black that’s not pitch black but slightly lighter and in a matte finish. I used Benjamin Moore's Black Panther for some cabinets and it’s been fantastic. It pairs really well with matte black hardware, creating enough contrast for your handles to stand out without clashing. Plus, it’s generally easier to maintain!
