I'm considering purchasing a new #4 plane since my current one—an old Craftsman—is pretty terrible. There's a Woodriver plane on sale for $157.00 before tax, which is a 25% discount. I've been searching for a good Stanley locally for months without any luck. For those who own Woodriver planes, would you recommend buying one?

I have a Woodriver 5 1/2 and I’d definitely buy another one! I followed the Rob Cosman setup instructions precisely and it works like a charm, way better than my Veritas smoothing plane. If you're looking for quality, I think you'll be happy with a Woodriver.
I've got quite a few Woodriver planes. My first was a low-angle jack, and I've also picked up a block and two shoulder planes. They're not quite on the level of Veritas or Lie-Nielsen, but they’re definitely better than what's usually available at big box stores. I'd say go for it, especially at that price!

Thanks for the input! Do you think it's worth the money at the 25% discount, or should I save up for a Veritas or Lie-Nielsen?
