I've been going through a tough time at work lately and find myself dreaming about gardening all day. I absolutely love planning and executing garden projects, and I'm really passionate about helping others grow their own food. Back in college, I volunteered during spring break to help build urban gardens in various cities. Now, I'm wondering if I could turn my love for designing and building vegetable gardens into a business. I have a sizable garden of my own and have even helped some friends get started with theirs. Do any of you actually run gardening businesses? I'm curious if this is a feasible idea or just a pipe dream. I live in a 9a zone, so we get a long growing season, which means there's always something to do in the garden year-round. Thanks in advance for any advice! 🙂

I'm currently studying an art degree at my local community college, and there's this older student who's a landscape designer. Taking some landscaping classes might be a great idea if you're serious about building a gardening business. You could learn modern planning techniques and get advice from professors about opportunities in the field. It's worth exploring!
I know a few people around here who run gardening businesses catering to wealthy clients. While it's definitely a viable model, it can also be risky. Personally, when I retired, I started a small market garden and have found a niche growing organic greens and seasonal veggies for a handful of customers who are willing to pay premium prices. I've even done some bespoke growing for folks with specific requests, like a lady who wanted a special eggplant variety. The key is treating it like a business and understanding if your market can support your idea. If it can, then go for it! I recently decided to expand my growing area to include flowers for bouquets since my veggie customers expressed interest. Just a heads up, running a garden business is hard work and can be tougher than many traditional jobs, but honestly, I wouldn't want to do anything else – it's awesome!
Given the way things are going, many people might be interested in starting their gardens. A lot of us picked it up during COVID just for fun, but now it seems essential for some folks. I'm planning to grow some fall seedlings and California native plants in my yard. It looks like there's a market for these kinds of services now more than ever! Plus, maybe offering classes on food preservation could really add some value to your business idea. It's exciting to think about turning your passion into a career!
Yes, that too! I think more people would be open to the idea of it right about now. I guess food preservation classes could be helpful, too. Idk I'm just like how do I make this my life lol

OMG this sounds like a wonderful way to work, what an improvement over Fintech 🙂
