I'm about to close on my first home and I'm planning to swap out the existing tub for a new tub with a shower. My goal is to keep costs under $5,000. I'm considering a freestanding tub with an accompanying shower and waterproofing underneath it, maybe even tiling the whole bathroom while I'm at it. Since I'm a total novice at DIY and home renovations, I could really use your advice on the removal process, potential costs, possible issues to watch out for, or any other suggestions. Anything you can share would be awesome!

Replacing that tub isn’t going to be easy, especially with that window in the way. It might be worth considering changing the orientation of the tub if possible. Also, are you planning a complete gut of the bathroom? That could get pricey fast, even with DIY help. I'd lean towards keeping the floors wood-free, but plan for costs to add up if you decide to go big.
I hear you on the costs! I'm hoping to just replace the tub and maybe tile the floors for now, without tearing everything out.
