Thoughts on Altering Dryer Vent for Better Fit?

I'm dealing with a really cramped laundry area. There's only about 5 inches between the back of my dryer and the wall. The vent is offset by around 6 inches at the same height as the dryer outlet, which is about 2 inches off the floor. To complicate things, there's a gas line that comes straight out of the floor right in the way of a clean connection between the dryer and the wall vent. I'm thinking about cutting the drywall above the wall vent and extending the vent vertically by about 12 to 18 inches. This would help me avoid the gas line and allow for a more straightforward exhaust path. Before I go ahead with this, does anyone foresee any issues with this plan?

It sounds like a tight spot for sure! I had a similar issue with my laundry space where I rerouted my gas line into the wall and used a specific type of duct that made the fit much better. I used the TiteFit 90-Degree Rectangular Aluminum Dryer Duct, which worked wonders for making a clean connection without sacrificing space. Maybe consider something similar? It could help you create a more efficient setup!

That sounds like a great solution! Did rerouting the gas line cause any issues for you?

Could you share some pictures of your setup? I'd love to see how you made it work!

Extending the vent as you described could work, but make sure to check local codes for ventilation requirements. Bypassing the gas line is smart, but ensure you don't end up with any bends that could restrict airflow. Keeping the duct straight and minimizing any turns is key for good dryer performance!

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ll definitely check the codes before I start.

Good point about airflow! I’d hate to have my dryer working harder than it needs to.
