I'm looking to hear from anyone who has experience using the Veritas Inset Vice. It seems to be a compact, well-made alternative to a wagon vice, and I'm considering installing it in my Anarchist-style workbench since it looks easier to install and more affordable than other options. One thing I'm worried about is the 1/2" Acme-thread shaft, which appears to have six threads in that length. Even if it has a twin lead screw and thus 6 TPI, it seems like that might be quite slow for a wagon vice. Also, I'm curious about the small handle size, which looks to be around 3/8" x 3". If you've used this vice, how has your experience been? Is the small handle comfortable to use? Does sawdust get stuck around the shaft, and is it easy to clean out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've installed it, and it works fine, but I still find it a bit tedious to adjust compared to others I've tried. Plus, cleaning can be a pain with all that debris.
Had one installed on my second bench. I found it slow to adjust and it tends to collect sawdust and wood chips quickly. I eventually switched to their larger quick-release shoulder vise on my current bench which works much better for tenon trimming and elevating work.
I've got the Veritas inset vise on my workbench and I wouldn't replace it. It holds everything tight and aligns with my dog holes well. Even with the small threads, I rarely have issues since it doesn't need to move much. Plus, there are clearance holes in the bottom that help with debris. It's all about how you set it up!
Thanks for your thorough "user report." I thought the two dog holes meant minimal movement, so your experience is reassuring!
I briefly looked into that vice before opting for the Taytools wagon vise kit. I've been really happy with it for under $50 and a little installation time. It's not on par with top-end brands like Benchcrafted or Hovarter, but it gets the job done. Here’s a video of the install if you're interested! Lefty bench!
How is the speed of movement on that? I'm looking at their moxon vise kit but am a bit concerned since it’s not Acme.

Thanks for the detailed insight! Glad to know about the clearance holes. What spacing do you have for your dog holes?
