I'm moving across the country and really want to take my houseplants with me, including a large monstera and a few smaller ones. I've been doing some research, but I'd love some advice from anyone who's successfully traveled with plants before. I plan to transport them by car, avoiding the U-Haul since it won't have proper lighting or temperature control. The trip will take about 2-3 days. Any tips or experiences to share would be greatly appreciated!

I just moved a few weeks ago and it was quite an adventure! Though my trip was only halfway across the country, I used my car and a small trailer. I managed to fit most of my 15+ plants inside but had to make two trips because my monstera was just too big. I transported them in two large plastic totes—closed one for smaller plants while driving but opened it when I stopped for the night. Everything turned out fine, though they were a bit cramped! Good luck with your move!
One important tip is to avoid putting your plants in the back window where they'll get too much sun. I traveled for ten days in over 100°F heat with my plants in the car, and they fared well, mainly because I kept them on the floor out of direct sunlight. Make sure to crack your windows a bit and park in the shade whenever you can. It might also be wise to have a sheet or some shade cloth handy to cover them if needed. Just remember, if the temperature drops below 50°F, bring them inside wherever you stay.

That sounds like a good strategy! I never thought about using totes. How did you manage the heavy ones like your monstera?
