I'm working on my finished basement and am faced with a challenge. The stairwell currently features just painted cement brick, and I want to install some paneling to enhance the look, similar to what I've linked in the picture. When I'm attaching paneling to standard walls, I nail into the studs, but I'm unsure how to do this with a concrete wall. The paneling I have is slightly cupped, which makes me concerned that if I use something like Liquid Nails, I might be stuck pressing it against the wall for ages. Is there a product that has a quick grab time? Should I consider building a contraption using 2x4s to apply even pressure, or is there a way to nail it in? I'm open to any ideas or tips!

A good approach would be to use strapping, like a 1x3 or 1x4. You can shoot small brad nails into the paneling once it's secured to the strapping. If you want more support and to build out the wall a bit, a 2x4 could work too, but it might not be necessary. I suggest adding a bead of construction adhesive to the strapping to keep the paneling secure. Just remember to use concrete fasteners for the strapping, so that the heads don’t interfere with the paneling on the backside.
I get what you're saying. My concern is how that setup will look with the base molding on the stairs and the edge at the carpet on the landing. Since a 1-by is about 3/4" thick plus the 1/4" panel, it might be sticking out an inch from the wall which could be a problem.
