I'm looking for some advice on how to create a large chicken feeder to help with my forgetfulness when it comes to feeding my chickens. My plan is to use sheets of plywood measuring 1.5x3 feet, aiming for a design that can hold an entire bag of feed (around 30-50 pounds). I'm thinking of building a big box with a trough at the bottom, secured to the inside wall of the coop. Does anyone have suggestions or better ideas for building it?

It's great you're trying to solve your feeding issue, but don’t forget that daily feeding has its benefits! Checking the coop each day helps you spot any issues, keep feed fresh, and monitor your chickens’ health. Just set a reminder or something!
Just curious, how many chickens are you trying to feed? If you're looking at around 20-25, a big feeder sounds perfect, but keep in mind you'll likely need to refill often regardless of size, especially with free ranging birds!
Yeah, I hear you! I have a 1-gallon feeder that needs filling every couple of days.
I actually use a deer feeder for my chickens! It can hold 50lbs of chicken pellets easily, keeps the food elevated, and automatically dispenses the feed at set intervals. I found a good one for about $99 recently, and it works wonders! You might want to check that out as an option.
That's a clever solution, I hadn't thought of that! Thanks!

Good point! I need to be more responsible about it.
