Hey everyone, I'm a total beginner when it comes to gardening! My garden is located at the front of my house, right next to a wall with some old-style railings. It's a lovely sun trap, but it gets pretty busy with people walking by during the summer. I'm looking for some privacy and a splash of color in the garden. After thinking about it, I decided that planting bare root fruit trees (or maybe magnolias) might be the best option since I'm on a budget. I've spotted some at my local Tesco for 2 for £12, but they're looking a bit sad and might be gone soon. Does anyone have suggestions on which fruit trees are easiest to grow and provide great blossoms? Also, any tips on where else I might find bare root trees, like B&Q, would be super helpful! Thanks a ton in advance!

That sounds like a fun project! Magnolias can take a long time to grow and might not give you the immediate privacy you're hoping for, plus they can get really big depending on the type. For fruit trees, cherries grow quickly but can get a bit unruly. Apples are a solid choice too! But it all depends on the variety. Also, how tall are those railings? If they’re low, those trees might just end up towering over them and still let people see in. If you're open to something other than trees, consider cytisus (broom); it's super quick-growing with beautiful blooms in spring and gets bushy, perfect for privacy. Forsythia is another great option with bright yellow flowers and it's easy to shape! Good luck!
If you're looking for coverage year-round, yew trees are a great choice! They're evergreen and provide awesome privacy. You can find deals like 5 for £21 on Amazon right now, too. Perfect way to fill your garden without breaking the bank!

Thanks for the insights! I really appreciate it. My railings are about 4ft tall, so I guess I need to be mindful of that for privacy. I'll definitely look into cytisus and forsythia. Cheers!
