I haven't done a ton of woodworking yet—mostly just some home projects and building sheds with my dad. I'm working on a steel-framed desk and I want to create a butcher block style top for it. I'm planning to cut down some mesquite trees on our property, but I could really use some advice on how to go about it properly.

Cutting down trees for your first woodworking project? That's ambitious! Just remember, you need to dry out that lumber before using it, which can take years. Maybe look into some drying techniques or find a way to manage the lumber better after cutting it down.
Yeah, I get that it's a bit much for a first project, but we usually just burn the trees after cutting them, so I figured why not try something different this time!
