I've noticed that many people tend to hire cleaning services based mostly on price, only to regret it later when they realize things were missed or items got damaged. For those of you who have hired professional cleaning services for your homes, I'm curious about how you determined they were reliable. Did you go by referrals, try a small trial job, or check for contracts and insurance? I'm looking for practical strategies that ended up working for you!

I just did a quick Google search for local cleaning companies. A couple of them offered to come do onsite walkthroughs with me to explain their cleaning processes. It felt a bit salesy, but I appreciated meeting the owners in person and hearing how they hire their staff and their insurance policies. It made me feel better about the choice. Just be sure to do your homework and don’t hesitate to call and chat with them before scheduling a cleaning!
After some major renovations, my general contractor had cleaners come in, and they did an excellent job. So I asked them for their info. Before that, I tried a larger cleaning company, and honestly, I wasn't impressed with their work. Sometimes local or smaller companies can really shine!
I found NextDoor surprisingly helpful! I discovered a woman running a small cleaning service, and she’s not only nice but also has fair pricing. I feel much better giving her my business instead of a big corporation!
I initially got some crazy quotes—like $500 for a 1700 sqft house! One day, I bumped into some cleaners who had just finished at my neighbor’s place. A few days later, I asked my neighbor about them, and he said he'd been using them for two years. I had them over and they charged only $130 per visit! Now I’ve even referred them to several friends. They started as a two-person team and are growing. Definitely check around your neighborhood!
I’d suggest being cautious with hiring professional services straight up. Even if the crew seems trustworthy, they often rush through jobs because they're pushed by their employers. I actually found my amazing housekeeper through my city’s Reddit board! Someone sent me a message, and it turned out great. She does a way better job than the service I previously hired (also recommended by Reddit) and charges less!
My HVAC guy recommended a friend of his who does cleaning, and that’s been a solid hire for me. Sometimes, personal recommendations from people you trust can lead to good finds!

I totally agree! I found someone similar for my place and she does an awesome job without costing me an arm and a leg.
