Hey everyone! I'm diving into growing succulents, specifically hens and chicks, from seed just for fun. I've done some searching but haven't found much helpful info. Could you share your best tips on this? What kind of substrate should I use? Do I need to cover the seeds? Is humidity important? I assume they need high light. Should I keep the soil damp like regular seeds, or can I germinate them in a wet paper towel? I'd love all your suggestions since advice from this community has always been gold compared to what I find on Google. Thanks a bunch!

Also, just a heads up, "hens and chicks" can refer to different plants like echeveria, sempervivum, or aeonium. Make sure you know which one you're growing since they each have unique needs. Sempervivums, for example, are typically hardy and can handle less humidity compared to echerveria. Just double-check what you're planting for the best results!
Great question! When it comes to growing hens and chicks, the type of plant matters a lot. Hens and chicks refers to various species in the Crassulaceae family. If you’re dealing with sempervivum, they thrive in well-draining soil, so a cactus mix blended with perlite works great. Just sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil without covering them and keep them in a warm spot with bright light. You want them to stay moist but not soggy, so gentle watering is key. If you're using a wet paper towel, make sure it's just damp enough to encourage germination without drowning the seeds!
Thanks for the tip! So bright light and not covering the seeds sounds good. I’ll definitely follow that advice!

Totally didn’t realize that either! I've only grown sempervivum myself. Good to know there are different requirements!
