Hey everyone! My sister just moved into her first house, and she's got a pretty big backyard. She loves the idea of gardening but feels a bit overwhelmed about the work involved. She's asked for my help to start a small garden this year since she knows I'm into it. We're in Zone 6A, so I think we should get going soon. I'm considering a single raised bed with some easy-to-grow veggies, especially since tomatoes are her favorite, along with some herbs. If anyone has any advice for a beginner gardener, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Just a heads up, raised beds can be a bit of a hassle. Instead, why not just plant directly in the ground? It can save a lot of trouble and sometimes it’s even easier, depending on what you want to grow!
I agree with starting small. Make sure you fill that raised bed with good soil, but don’t overcrowd it. Use about 1-2 inches from the top. It’s also too late to start tomatoes from seeds, so grab some starters from a nursery. And keep those weeds from going to seed; they can really take over your garden if you're not careful!
Starting small is definitely key! I suggest picking just one or two tomato plants and maybe a cucumber along with some herbs to keep it manageable. It’s also a good idea to keep everything in that raised bed so she can tend to it easily without bending down too much. That way, she won’t feel overwhelmed right from the start!

Exactly! A couple of popular plants makes it way easier to get started. Plus, it's way more fun to see the plants grow without feeling like it’s a ton of work!
