I'm dealing with a major drainage issue in my yard, which is entirely made up of clay. One effective way to tackle this is to grade your yard with some higher spots and lower swales to help direct the water away. It might also be worth considering adding drain tile and a gravel field trench in certain areas.
Adding organic matter like compost or manure can really help improve the drainage in your clay yard. I transitioned from tough soil to sandy ground and while sand has its challenges, amending with organic material definitely made a difference.
I’ve faced similar issues in a new place I bought. My contractor claims that laying down topsoil and planting grass will significantly reduce the standing water. Fingers crossed it works, but it's certainly worth a shot!
