Tips for Installing a Basketball Hoop Without Hitting a Pipe

I'm trying to pour a concrete footing for my basketball hoop, which needs to be a 16"x16"x36" block. The problem is I found a sleeved corrugated pipe at about 30" deep, and I really don't want to disturb it. It seems like it might not even be doing anything, but just to be safe, I'm planning to pour the concrete to a size of 24"x24" and stop about 6" above the pipe, then dig deeper behind the pipe to reach 42". I also intend to construct a wooden base beside and above the pipe for the pour. Does anyone have suggestions on how to protect the pipe while ensuring the hoop remains stable?

It's super important to call 811 before you dig! That way, you can find out exactly what that pipe is for and whether you can place concrete nearby. Even if it’s not marked, you don't want to risk damaging something that could lead to bigger problems later, like them needing to remove your hoop to fix the pipe.

If it’s a corrugated pipe, it’s likely for stormwater drainage, so it’s best to avoid messing with it. Better safe than sorry!

I checked, and it’s not marked. I consulted with the street's construction company, and they advised against cutting it. They told me to work around it for sure.
