Tips for Keeping Houseplants Alive When You’re Forgetful

I've always struggled with keeping houseplants alive—I've managed to kill every fern and succulent I've tried! I tend to forget about them, and I think overwatering is my main problem. My room has just one window that I don't open much, which probably doesn't help. Can anyone suggest some easy-to-maintain plants? Maybe something even simpler than succulents? I was thinking that perhaps getting a larger plant would help me remember to take care of it better!

For your lighting situation, consider getting a plant light if natural light is scarce. If you prefer to group your plants, a Mother Grow Light works well, but for individual plants, you can find budget-friendly options. I recommend trying Pothos—they’re hardy and can either trail or climb depending on how you want to display them. When it comes to watering, give them a thorough soak and then let the soil dry out completely before the next watering session. I check mine about twice a week, but I wait until they really need it, which can vary depending on the season. You might find a watering indicator helpful too! Keep an eye on them, and it should make things easier!

Thanks for the tips! I haven't settled into my new place enough to know how hot it gets, but it can be quite chilly with poor circulation!

I suggest diving into plant care by researching different types of plants. Understanding their natural environments will help you replicate the right conditions at home. Start with a plant that catches your eye, learn all about it, and hone your care skills. Once you get comfortable with one, you can expand your plant collection. It's all about learning what works best for you!
