Tips for Making Railroad Ties Safe to Walk on

Hey everyone! We've used some railroad ties to create steps down a steep hill in our yard. I remembered slipping on wet ties at a park in the past, so I'm looking for advice on how to make them safer. Does anyone have ideas for texturing the surface, or does anyone have experience with durable adhesive tape that offers a rough surface and can withstand the elements for a good while?

One option is to pressure wash the ties first, then apply a wet-and-forget deck cleaner. If that doesn’t cut it, consider adding anti-slip tape or stair treads. Also, if possible, angling the ties slightly might help with runoff and keep them drier. Just a tip!

Thanks for the advice! We've done the wash and cleaner, and since they'll be in the sun a lot, I'm just being cautious because we have renters using the yard. I'm really on the lookout for a solid anti-slip tape that can hold up for months.
