Tips for Mastering String Trimming Techniques

I've recently moved into a house with a yard after living in condos and apartments, and I've been trying my hand at string trimming for the last couple of months. While I can handle the borders of my lawn pretty well, I'm struggling with tight spaces and trimming around obstacles. I keep chewing up the tips of my string and find myself needing to refresh the line about three times in 15 minutes! Any advice on how to improve my trimming skills?

Experimentation is key! Worst case, if you mess up, the grass will just grow back. Plus, if you soak your string line in water, it can help reduce breakage. It’s a trick I heard about, but honestly, I just adjust my technique until I figure it out.

Keep in mind that you can always trim more, but you can’t put it back, so take it easy with the power. Reduce the trim speed so your line stays straighter; I’ve noticed using a more flexible line helps it get into tight spots without wearing out super fast.

What kind of trimmer are you using? I find that the type of string can make a huge difference in how well it holds up against tougher spots. Just curious – are you using the string that came with your Ego trimmer?

Don't stress too much! No one becomes a pro overnight. You’ll improve over time, and even seasoned pros have their off days. Just remember your safety gear too – goggles are a must when trimming near rocks!

Definitely try angling your trimmer towards the ground when you're near fences or other hard surfaces. It's all about balancing the speed; crank it down a bit so the line doesn’t get shredded but still cuts the grass. I usually keep my RPMs up to burn off any excess oil too.
