Tips for Moving a Heavy Jointer into a Basement Workshop

I'm planning to buy a Record Power PT310-HB jointer, but I'm worried about how to get it into my basement workshop. Weighing in at 175KG, it's one of the lighter options I found, but my basement stairs are quite wide and have a tricky 180-degree turn. I'm wondering if it's possible to disassemble the tables to make it easier to carry. But would that mess up the alignment afterward? I'm open to any ideas you guys might have for moving it!

Honestly, it sounds tough to move that jointer without disassembling it first. If you do take the tables off, make sure you've got one or two strong friends to help you out. You might consider stair climbing equipment, but they can be pricey and may struggle with turns like yours. It could really mess up the alignment, which is a pain to fix, trust me.

Right? Keeping things aligned after moving is such a hassle. I totally get you—it’s a big job! Definitely wouldn’t want to do it solo.

I moved a big planer up from my basement once, and that was a huge task with three of us. I can’t imagine trying it with a turn involved like yours. I don’t think disassembling it is common for jointers, and if you do, it’s probably gonna be hard to set it all back up right. You might need to rethink leaving it upstairs if that's an option, although I get that might not be convenient for you.

Exactly, I can't keep it upstairs. Just trying to find a way to make this work without causing too much hassle!
