I'm planning to paint a large dresser and a desk and I know the basics: I need to clean them, sand the surfaces, and apply primer first. However, I'm confused about what type of paint to use. There are so many options out there—can anyone recommend the best kind for furniture?

After cleaning and sanding, you'll definitely want to prime your furniture. A primer like KILZ is great because it sticks to almost anything and helps the paint adhere better. Make sure you take your time with the surface prep; it's key to getting a nice finish since any imperfections will show through once you paint!
For furniture, I recommend using Enamel or Lacquer paint. They give a nice finish and are really durable. Just steer clear of latex and acrylic paints—they're not suitable for this kind of project.
You might want to check out Sherwin Williams for their Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel. I find it easy to work with and it's durable too. Just remember, not all paint is created equal, so I avoid buying from Home Depot due to quality concerns.
Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to prep thoroughly before painting.
