Tips for Removing a Stuck Packing Nut on a Hose Bib

I'm dealing with a stubborn packing nut on my hose bib that's completely stuck, and I'm starting to worry I'll strip the brass. I've got a slow leak and need to replace the washers inside. How can I safely get this nut off without causing damage? I've attached a photo for reference.

I had a similar issue when I replaced mine last fall! First, you should definitely try spraying it with some penetrating lubricant and let it soak for about an hour. Hit it every 15 minutes to let the oil really seep in. If that doesn't work, you might want to try the "shock it" method. Grab two hammers and gently tap from opposite sides—be careful since it’s brass, so go easy! If it starts rounding, using some vice grips or a pipe wrench should help.

I just saw a cool video about locking pliers too. Apparently, Malco Eagle Grips were the best, but they’re discontinued now. Irwin grips are solid and more affordable though!
