Tips for Removing Stubborn Cabinet Hardware

Hey everyone, I'm trying to replace the hardware on my kitchen cabinets as a simple upgrade before selling my home. However, I've only managed to get the old hardware off of two cabinets out of thirty-two. The screws feel incredibly tight, and I'm starting to wonder if it's my power drill that's the issue or if I'm just not using it right. I really don't want to strip the screw heads while I'm at it. Any suggestions on how to make this process easier? Thanks a lot!

Just a heads up to check that your new hardware aligns with the existing holes before you start unscrewing everything! It can save you a lot of trouble and make the installation smoother.

Good call, I'll definitely double-check that before I commit to anything. Thanks!

I can relate to how tough this can be, especially with arthritic hands! Manual tools may actually be more forgiving than power tools for this kind of job. Don’t hesitate to grab a friend to help out if you're really struggling!

Definitely go slowly! Speed can strip the screws. If you notice they're starting to strip, try placing a rubber band in between the screwdriver and the screw for extra grip. It can really help ensure you have enough bite to turn those stubborn screws.

It might help to switch from a power tool to a manual screwdriver. Make sure the type of screwdriver matches the screw heads properly. It sounds like rust could be a problem too, so try using some penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench. A little bit applied to the screw can help. Tap the screw gently after applying the oil to help break it loose, then give it another shot.
