Hey everyone! I recently bought a home from the 1940s that has hardwood flooring throughout, except in the kitchen and bathroom. The main areas have some visible wear like gaps and stains but overall, they're in mediocre shape with a dark mahogany stain. I'm planning to scrub them and use a refinishing product, but I'm also dealing with some troublesome spots in the bedrooms. One room was painted and has gouges, another had rubber-backed carpet leaving a finish-less area, and the last bedroom has discoloration. My goal is to avoid a full refinish as I'm short on time and funds. Currently, I'm considering the Behr stain and poly combo, which claims to adhere over the existing finish and match the stain color. Does that sound like a good approach? And how can I blend this new stain with the untouched upstairs hallway? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend using that combo product on your floors. You might end up regretting it later. If your hardwood is in such rough shape, a full refinish may be the only way to go. If that's beyond your budget, why not invest in some large rugs to cover the damage until you're ready to take the plunge?

So just to confirm, there aren't any intermediate options to make them look decent? I could handle a DIY refinish myself, but I'd rather keep it simple if possible.
