I'm in the process of getting rid of all the popcorn ceilings in my new home. I've covered the walls with plastic sheeting to protect them from dust and water, using blue painters tape to secure it. However, my plan backfired when the water I sprayed on the ceiling got under the tape, causing the entire sheeting to fall down. Is there a better tape that can handle moisture and keep the sheeting in place?

As an asbestos abatement contractor with over a decade of experience, I recommend ditching the painters tape and using something more robust. Pros typically use 4 mil plastic sheeting secured with duct tape and staple guns. Start by protecting your floors with 6 mil poly sheeting, layering it up the walls and securing it well. After that’s set, add more sheeting on top to avoid any leaks while you work.
