Tips for Securing Kitchen Cabinet Shims

I just finished installing my kitchen cabinets and used several shims to make everything level. I'm planning to cut them down with an exacto knife to make them flush, but I'm wondering if there are any additional tips for securing the shims to the floor or cabinets. Since I didn't install them directly on the subfloor but instead on tile, I'm a bit concerned about using screws or nails. Are there any good techniques or adhesives that would work?

If you're looking for a method that doesn’t require drilling into your tile, try using silicone to hold the shims in place. It's a great way to secure them without any damage to your flooring.

You could consider using short screws to attach the shims to the cabinet without going through the tile. Alternatively, some type of adhesive could work, but you'd need to remove the cabinets to apply it properly. Just remember, if your cabinets are secured to the wall well enough, they might not need to be anchored down to the floor at all! The trim will help keep them steady, too.

Good point! I wasn't sure about them floating, but I guess as long as they're secure at the top, they should be fine.
