Hey everyone! I'm new to gardening and I've had a tough time with plant cuttings in the past. I'm looking for some solid tips on how to properly take cuttings and what kind of care they need afterward. I've read a bunch of articles, but they seem to conflict on a lot of points. Some say to keep cuttings in a greenhouse, while others recommend plastic bags or shady spots. How often should I water my cuttings? If they do sprout roots, what's the best way to keep them overwinter? I really want to have success with plants like salvia and roses this time around. Thanks in advance for your help!

Awesome tips! I’ll definitely give these a try. Thanks for all the input!
I’ve had luck using a jam jar filled with water. Just place it on a sunny windowsill in the kitchen. I keep it pretty low-tech, but it works for me!
Different plants need different care, so it’s best to research the specific requirements for each type of plant you want to propagate. Not every plant can be successfully propagated from cuttings, so be sure to look into that before you begin!
Most of the time, I just place the cut end of my stem in a jar of water. I cover the top with cling film and poke the stem through. Leave a few leaves on top, and in a few weeks, when there are bushy roots, I just pot them in well-watered soil. Then I treat them like regular plants!
Right? It's a game-changer for sure!

Cling film is such a clever idea! I love that I won’t have to balance sprouting cuttings on twigs anymore!
