Tips for Watering Plants in Pots Without Drainage Holes?

I've been wanting to use some beautiful pots for my plants, but they don't have drainage holes. All my other plants are in pots with drainage, and I'm a bit worried about overwatering. Does anyone have tips or strategies for caring for potted plants that are directly in containers without drainage?

A great trick is to keep your plants in their plastic nursery pots that have drainage holes and just place those inside your decorative pots. This way, when it comes time to water, you can easily remove the plastic pot to let it drain. It’s a simple solution that keeps your beautiful pots looking nice without the drainage hassle!

Totally agree! I wish I could drill holes in my pots, but I’m always scared I'll mess them up. It's so tempting when you see those gorgeous designs!

You can absolutely plant directly in pots without drainage, but you need to be cautious. Make sure to check for any stagnant water at the bottom, or your plant roots might rot. If you want to try it, keep a close eye on how much water you're giving them, and you might find it easier than you think!

I’ve tried a few methods! If you want something unique, you could also try using a layer of stones or gravel in the bottom of the pot as a makeshift drain. If your pot is clay, that might help, since it's porous. And if you're brave, you could always drill a hole—just make sure you're prepared for potential breakage!

Switching to using nursery pots inside the decorative ones is definitely the way to go! I found that taking care of plants in pots without drainage can get tricky. It's important to monitor how often and how much you water, especially since too much water at once can be dangerous for your plants. If you decide to go this route, consider getting a moisture meter to help you out!
