I just got a colwood detailer wood burner and I'm looking for advice on the best tips and techniques for creating fur and feather textures on my wood carvings. Any suggestions?

For fur, I recommend using the K tip or something similar. I burn multiple small lines at a lower heat setting around 4, then mix it up with some random strokes at a higher heat of 6 or 7 to create a rough texture. It really helps to get that fluffy look! You can check out this example I found [here](https://imgur.com/gallery/fluffy-l110isJ). For feathers, stick to a lower heat (about 4) for consistent lines. Don’t forget to experiment on scrap wood first!
Great advice! How do you clean your wood burning tips to get them back to their best after they’ve built up carbon?

Thanks for the tips! I'm currently working on a hummingbird wood carving, and those small feather details are crucial. Just to confirm, do you adjust the heat settings differently for softwoods vs. hardwoods?
