I've been taking care of my maidenhair ferns, and I've noticed that keeping them in about 1-2 inches of water all the time helps them thrive. However, this practice has led to a significant fungus gnat problem. I've tried using mosquito bits water to top water every now and then, which helps a bit, but it feels like the gnats just keep coming back. I'm looking for effective tips to keep them at bay without having to let my ferns dry out, since they react badly to that. Any advice?

If your maidenhair ferns are in soil, you might want to consider Gnatrol. It can effectively eliminate the gnats in about two weeks. You just mix the recommended amount into the water you use for watering, and it acts as a larvicide to kill off the larvae. Just keep watering normally, but make sure to let the soil dry out as per your usual routine. This method also works well for moss poles if you have any!

That sounds helpful, but I should mention I'm in Australia, and Gnatrol isn’t available here. I had to get mosquito bits from Amazon, but they were pretty pricey!
